Wild Pavements - Urban Wildlife Walk & Talk
With Author Amanda Tuke
Join Amanda on a walk around Dorchester to explore the wild plants and other wildlife that find a home under our very feet. This walk will start outside Teasel & Skylark in Trinity Street at 10am.
Then, at 11.30am, in The King’s Arms Hotel, hear Amanda discuss her book ‘Wild Pavements - Exploring Britain’s Cities With An Urban Naturalist’.
About Wild Pavements
The book explores the wildlife flourishing within Britain's urban environments and the people working to understand and protect it. Amanda travels through cities across the British Isles, showing how nature survives — and sometimes flourishes — in some very unexpected places.
Amanda travels from London to cities including Liverpool, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff, Sheffield and Aberdeen, uncovering everything from wild bees on canal banks and rare plants growing in pavement cracks to birds nesting amid some of Britain’s busiest streets. Her central message is a simple one: people do not necessarily need to travel into the countryside to experience remarkable wildlife — much of it is already living alongside us.
