Today, 19 June 2026, we are launching our big new community initiative focused on reluctant readers aged between 4 and 14 years old - Teasel & Skylark’s Young Reviewers’ Club.

We’ve been busy this week, being interviewed by national and local radio stations and appearing in various publications as part of our role of ‘Bookshop Champion’ for Independent Bookshop Week (IBW).

On the evening of Wednesday 17 June 2026, we held our first ever book-themed quiz with Mid-Dorset Mencap (Dorchester’s independent charity in Trinity Street).

We were honoured to receive a visit from the Mayor and Mayoress of Dorchester, Councillor Les Fry BEM and Mrs Julie Fry BEM, yesterday (Wednesday 17 June) to show support for Independent Bookshop Week. The Mayor and Mayoress interviewed us for Keep 106 Radio with the help of Andy Worth.

We are one of only 44 independent bookshops in the UK to have been awarded this grant to help reluctant younger readers develop a love for reading and books in this National Year of Reading.

We are thrilled that legendary children’s author and illustrator, Eileen Browne, is coming to Dorchester to host a music, movement, and storytelling workshop based on her beloved ‘Handa’ series of books.

We were thrilled to win three awards at the Dorchester Business Awards 2026 including the prestigious Business of the Year title.
