Teasel & Skylark in the News

We’ve been busy this week, being interviewed by national and local radio stations and appearing in various publications as part of our role of ‘Bookshop Champion’ for Independent Bookshop Week (IBW).

On the morning of Wednesday 17 June, we were interviewed by Tim Smith on Magic Classical - one of five indie bookshops to feature that week. In addition to talking through everything the shop was doing for IBW, we were asked to select a piece of music that said something about our shop. We chose ‘The Lark Ascending’ by Vaughan Williams as it represents a tranquil, peaceful escape into nature, reflecting our focus on nature-writing.

We received quite a surprise after our segment had finished, as Tim Smith went on to play one of David’s own compositions - a piece he wrote for the shop named ‘Teasel and Skylark’. David has been writing and composing his own music for many years and so getting this piece played on national radio absolutely made his day … week … even year! Thank you Tim and Magic Classical for playing ‘Teasel and Skylark’. Hear our interview and David’s music on our YouTube channel.

Later that day, we were interviewed by the Mayor and Mayoress of Dorchester, Councillor Les Fry BEM and Mrs Julie Fry BEM together with Andy Worth for Keep 106, Dorchester’s very own community radio station. Thanks to the Mayor and Mayoress and everyone at Keep 106 for their support.

We also would like to thank the Dorset Echo for writing an article on our ‘bookshop champion’ role in the newspaper and online as well as The West Dorset Magazine for their article in the June edition.
