Painted Parasol Studio
Launched with the intention of spreading a little spark of joy, Painted Parasol Studio is focused on creating fun illustrations with a generous spoonful of colour and a sprinkle of wit. Their cute cards are all drawn by Ellie Norbert-Munns, a graphic designer and illustrator with a background in magazine and newspaper publishing. She started her cheery business after returning to Dorchester following nearly a decade living in Southeast Asia, where she worked as an editor in Cambodia and cultivated an appreciation for the beautiful hand-painted parasols of Myanmar. Now she is continuing the adventure and drawing inspiration from life in Dorset with her husband and two children.

It starts with a verse. Arising in a joyous moment of rare presence and awareness, words and rhythm begin to form and it’s then I know I have my next painting. An early riser and keen runner, I find that life in the countryside offers so much to appreciate. The vibrant, ever changing palette of the land and sea, the fascinating and often funny creatures who inhabit it, and the quirky, warmhearted folk who live on it and from it. The opportunity for joy is in great abundance. Born in Scotland in 1970, I made Dorset my home 15 years ago. My tomboy childhood - racing about the fields and forests and swimming in the sea at every opportunity, usually with my dog at my side - is never far behind me. Life is good!

My work has been exhibited internationally in such places as New York, Chicago, Toronto, and Bali, as well as in the UK. It has also appeared at the National Library of Romania and across large-scale public screens throughout Australia. I’ve been shortlisted for the British Photography Awards and named one of the 100 Photographers to Watch in 2025 by the HUG Organisation.
I don’t create images to comfort or explain. They’re built on formal rigour — lines, shadows, space — but they resist narrative closure. I regard each photograph as the beginning of a narrative journey, not its conclusion. They are prompts for observation rather than answers — spaces where viewers can bring their own interpretations, associations, and questions.
My work is held in private collections, including that of Cozomo de’ Medici, whose focus lies in documenting key voices in digital-era art.
I’m a Dorset based photographer working at the intersection of aesthetic precision and psychological depth. My images are shaped as much by lived experience as by technique — often exploring tension, ambiguity, and the space between things.
Photography has been a constant in my life, though never in isolation. My career has been international and spanned, amongst other things, psychology, publishing, corporate leadership, and social advocacy. I’ve held senior roles in sales and marketing, psychometric test publishing, worked as a psychologist, and advised businesses at the strategic level. I’ve also been involved in academic mentorship, a music charity, urban regeneration, and have worked in the abolition of modern slavery. These diverse paths all influence the way I see — and what I choose to show.
