The Hare-Shaped Hole by John Dougherty, illustrated Thomas Docherty

This is one of those rare and beautiful beasts, a children’s picture book that really speaks to the adult reading it as much as the child being read to. Dealing with the highly emotional issue of loss and grief, it doesn’t gloss over the consequence of losing someone but instead conveys the reality of confusion, anger and upset, whilst ultimately providing a path for hope and acceptance. A must-read for any child or indeed any adult, whether they have experienced loss or not. Deeply moving, deeply beautiful. David.
